Nice job, Lani. Seems to be everyone's opinion of Sucker Punch.

  4. Rated PG-13. It probably got cut down to pander to a larger audience.

  5. I don't know, Lani. I got a different impression of this movie, especially when it comes to the parts that you mentioned were toned down. I don't personally think anything was cut; it all seemed to be more softened stylistically. I think the director was going for a more implicit approach to certain topics to make our imaginations do the work, which can be more effective (it worked for me, anyway).

I agree on the last bit, however. When the orderly killed off Blondie and Amber, it was difficult to care. The characters (aside from Baby Doll) weren't very well developed throughout the movie. I was more outraged than anything at the end when Sweet Pea came out on top instead of the main character.

Still an enjoyable experience, though. Then again, I got to watch it at a Warren Theatre with regular doses of white wine. :)

  6. Paul seems like a fun movie and I might have to drag a friend along to see it with me.

Sucker Punch hasn't gotten much attention ad wise where I live so I really hadn't heard much about it and really it's not the type of movie I'd see anyway.

You rat is quite adorable and seemed perfectly happy crawling under you shirt and popping his head out every once in a while like "you done yet? No? Ok I'm going back in!"

  7. I honestly think the problem that I have with Sucker Punch is the way it's designed. I perceive it to be overly sexualized and simply going at the male audience of blowing shit up and having tits (that I guess don't even do that much, lol). I refuse to watch this movie, even before your review and despite the fact that I really like Zach Snyder and had high expectations for the film.

Oh, and as for Seth McFarland, I have a new found respect for you and your dislike of his antics, they piss me off. As a Christian, I appreciate your desire to show everyone respect towards their beliefs, regardless of how they match up with yours.

  8. Lani,
Totally agree with you on the "VOICE MY POV" problem in Paul.

As for Sucker Punch, had the same disagreement with Baby Doll's "dancing".

  10. i had fun with the movie, but i can see why people didnt like it. a couple walked out of it in my showing. same thing happened with Scott Pilgrim (which was a far better movie). SP didn't make a whole lot of money either, and i think the problem is the audience these movies are targeted at. its a gamer/otaku minority. much more money is to be made in the general audience.

but after seeing this movie, i am a little worried about Synder doing the next superman movie. the only comfort i have is that Nolan is on the project as well and hopefully he'll tell Synder to take it easy on his style.

  13. I totally agree on the anime bit. This, if nothing else, was a live action anime. It would make a pretty good manga and or video game to. I think making it a live action maybe dulled it down a bit... (Kind of like the DBZ movie, only Sucker Punch couldn't be mistaken for Power Rangers...and didn't fail to that extent...) The outfits were cute though, might dress as Sweet Pea for next Anime Banzai...

  14. I have to agree with you. But for a few more points. At first I just didn't like it. It took me a while I didn't know why it just didn't. Well then I charged it up for the glorification and sexism aspects of the movie. But no I've seen and enjoyed worst and then today Mrs. Snob (cinema snobs girl) released a video along with bezaie discussing this movie. While I agree with both of their views I mostly agree with Mrs. Snob. It just doesn't explain enough or explains to little. In addition though I thought that Baby Doll was a TERRIBLE ACTRESS. her actions seemed stiff and awkward most of the time. Shes suppose to be a natural at this. The natural fighter the natural dancer. But honestly the other girls did a much better job in their fight choreography. I wanted to know more about them. I didn't give a crap about babydoll.
