First Impressions: DMC: Devil May Cry

DMC: Devil May Cry
How does it hold up to the original?

  1. Wow. That was short, sweet, and to the point. I was shocked more detail wasn't talked about. Like Dante's attitude, Vergil's mannerisms and lack of honour, etc.

    1. I was kinda looking forward to hearing him talk about the characters... Especially Kat, I don't know why

    2. Well, this really isn't a review. It's Lani's first impression of what he has experienced in the game so far, so its not going to be to in depth.

  2. I'm not paying for this because of Capcom and Ninja Theory's attitudes.

    1. All they did was ask people to try it before bad mouthing it. You're gonna be an asshole still?

    2. Dude, they said 'paying for this' nothing more. I tried the game (for free I wouldn't pay for it either.) And I honestly found it more like Heavenly Sword than devil may cry.) We all get to cast votes on whether we liked the game by picking it up or not, if you like it.. buy it and that's your say done. If we don't like it we don't have to buy or support, that's our say done. In the end all that matters is if there is enough people who like the game for Capcom to do sequels or ...there is enough to scare them back to formula or no further sequels. Much like Resident Evil.

  3. I too agree with Lani the bosses are far to simple. When i beat Mundus i was like "THATS IT!!!"

I was was worried when I bought it how it would be. I have loved the series since junior high school when i bought Devil May Cry 1. It is a decent remake. It did have the DMC feel to it. And i give it the credit that its the 1st game of the remake so they can touch up on it.

Some of the problems i had were:

    1) The guns in the game are extremely weak compared to the old games.
    2) again the bosses are far to easy.
    3) That you no longer get orbs from beating missions.
    4) Devil Trigger stinks, i dont like aircombos so much, i do them, i just dont like to be made to do it.
    5) Really my biggest problem is that they made Sparda in a wimp. I'm sorry there was no way to atleast keep that he was an all powerful badass demon? I mean I know its a reboot an all but with 4 other games feeding you that Sparda did amazing things to take it all away? I mean i can look past that Dante and Vergil are now half Angel which can be cool if the give them and Angel Trigger kinda like Lords of Shadows pulled. Just i wish they kept Sparda what he was, awesome.

  8. Sorry Lani, but I have played this game, and i did not like it... at all. Too easy, too slow, too manipulative, no lock on witha free moving camera, platforming is fun for the first little while but becomes a repetitive chore later, WAY too forgiving if you mess up (contributing to the easy difficulty), glitches, framerate drops, a shitty story that takes itself WAY too seriously, vulgarity for the sake of shock value (opening the game with gratuitous sex? Seriously?), stilted or outright offensive dialog, boring characters, excessively cliched...

The game hardly flows at all, on top of all of that. More often than not, during missions, you are always passed a cutscene to watch. Which would be fine if it happened once in a while, but it's every mission, at least 4 times (not including beginning and ending mission cutscenes). The worst offenders are the boss battles, where the fight pauses for a moment so that it shows you a little cutscene of DiNO or his foe doing something. Why? Honestly, why can't it just be a straight up boss battle, like in previous DMCs?

This is not a game for a Devil May Cry fan. This is a game for casuals. For people who want slower, easier games, that have more flash and less effort for even less reward. On it's own accord, it's an average hack-n-slash games with "interesting" gimmicks. As a DMC, it's sub par with convoluted controls, the near complete removal of the Style system of DMC3 and 4, easy gameplay, dumb ass AI, pretentious and terrible writing, and a final attempt to bitchslap fans of the previous series.

    1. Devil May Cry games were never difficult. While you'd like to differentiate yourself from people with an elitist mindset(it's actually pretentious as fuck), if your standard for "difficult game" includes Devil may Cry you're pretty far from "hardcore"

      But enjoy your ego.

  11. Whos this guy callin pretentious? Its pretentious to say original dmc is not hardcore. Maybe u only played on human, pussy, but iv never gotten an adrenaline rush from any other series the way i do in dmc. Lets see u not get touched on dmd mode n tell me thats easy. Or better yet, give me a harder game. What u got, dark souls? Lol i cant believe someone even made such a stupid comment as that. Try playing a real dmc game, theyre legend for a reason, not just cuz i say so. U should be embarrassed. N that review was dead on, its not this other guys fault he likes twilight.more than dmc

    1. I've beat every game on DMD difficulty and got an S rank on just about every mission and I will say that it's really not all that hard. It feels more difficult than it is at the beginning but once you get used to it's not that hard (unless you suck at doing any of the combos then you might be kind of screwed). Ninja Gaiden (the one that came out for the original xbox) is a much more difficult and unforgiving game on normal and it's much, much harder on the higher difficulties.

    2. You're high as a kite. Xbox Ninja Gaiden was hard, but for terrible design and barely controllable reasons. Once you realized how shit the game was it was mediocre at best as far as real difficulty.
